Water and sanitary workers warn strike after August 23

Jammu: Temporary and daily-wage workers of the water and sanitary department known as Jal Shakti Department have warned of a strike if their pending salaries are not released by August 23.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the workers said they have not been paid for the past four months. They said they are struggling to manage their families on a monthly wage of around Rs 9,000, which is insufficient amid rising inflation. Shiv Narayan Singh said the delay has affected the education of their children, with many unable to pay school fees.

Jatinder Sharma said the situation worsens when a family member falls ill, as they have no other stable source of income. The workers said the XEN of the Jal Shakti Department recently assured them that pending wages would be released by August 23. They warned that if salaries are not paid by the deadline, they will stop work and launch a strike.
