Power gets costlier in IIOJK, 6.83% tariff hike effective from Sept 1

Jammu: Electricity consumers in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir will face higher bills from September 1, 2026, as India has approved an average 6.83 per cent increase in power tariff for the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the revised tariff order covers both Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) and Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL). It will remain in force till March 31, 2027.
According to the order, the combined Aggregate Revenue Requirement (ARR) for both utilities for 2026-27 has been fixed at Rs 10,275.72 crore. Against projected revenue of Rs 7,352.87 crore at existing rates, the revenue gap stood at Rs 2,922.85 crore.
