DFP raises alarm over Shabbir Shah’s worsening health in jail
Party urges world to ensure medical care for Kashmiri prisoners

Srinagar : In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party has expressed deep concern over the deteriorating health of senior APHC leader and party chairman Shabbir Ahmad Shah and the lack of medical facilities available to him in an Indian jail.
According to Kashmir Media Service, DFP spokesperson Advocate Arshad Iqbal in a statement issued in Srinagar said that despite Shah’s ongoing health crisis, the medical facilities available to him in prison were insufficient for an elderly political leader suffering from serious health problems.
He said the treatment of the ailing political leader was deeply disturbing and contrary to basic principles of human dignity and human rights. He strongly condemned the continued mistreatment of Kashmiri political leaders and prisoners in Indian jails.
Advocate Arshad Iqbal maintained that political differences or convictions could never justify depriving any person of essential medical care, dignity and basic human rights. He stressed that prisoners, regardless of the charges or allegations against them, were entitled to humane treatment and appropriate healthcare.
The DFP spokesperson appealed to the Government of Pakistan, governments and leaders across the world, international human rights organisations and relevant international institutions to take immediate notice of the hardships faced by Kashmiri political leaders and prisoners incarcerated in Indian jails.
He urged the international community to pay particular attention to the health, safety and humanitarian conditions of Kashmiri political prisoners, especially those suffering from serious illnesses, and to press India to provide them with appropriate medical treatment and humane conditions of detention.
Advocate Arshad Iqbal further stressed that the international community must not remain silent while Kashmiri political leadership continues to face serious hardships in Indian prisons. He called for the issue to be addressed from the perspective of human rights, human dignity and international humanitarian principles.
The DFP spokesperson reiterated that the health and wellbeing of political prisoners must be protected and that India should ensure adequate medical facilities and humane treatment for all Kashmiri detainees.
