Farooq Abdullah slams Delhi’s ‘slavery’, seeks IIOJK’s economic independence
Srinagar : National Conference President Farooq Abdullah has asked “how long will you be a slave”, saying Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir cannot seek political authority from New Delhi while remaining financially dependent on it.
According to Kashmir Media Service, responding to questions on the power tariff hike, Abdullah said the territory must “stand on its feet” instead of continuing to “beg from Delhi”, and linked economic self-reliance with the demand for restoration of Article 370.
Responding to reporters on the recent power tariff hike, Abdullah said, “Tell me this, how long will you be a slave? You have to stand on your feet sometimes. When will you stand? How long will you beg from Delhi?”
Linking the issue to the demand for restoration of Article 370, he said, “You want Article 370, but you beg. Two things cannot be combined. If you want your respect, then first try to stand on your feet.”
Asked separately about the rise in crimes against women, Farooq Abdullah attributed it to people moving away from religious values, saying, “We are Muslims by name, not Muslims by deeds.”
