India’s growing war fever: Approves transfer of conventional missile technologies to private companies
New Delhi : The Indian government has approved providing missile technology to the private sector to increase the production of missiles.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Indian Ministry of Defence said that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the transfer of technology of all conventional missile systems developed by the government-owned Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) to Indian industry for local production.
This move is being described as a major and important change in the defence sector, which consists of government companies and research laboratories.
According to the statement of the Indian Ministry of Defence, private companies will now be able to compete for this technology and production rights by fulfilling technical qualifications, certifications and other legal requirements.
The ministry says that the main objective of this decision is to increase the country’s production capabilities, strengthen the defense industrial base and create opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises, including other technology partners, to participate in the supply chain.
According to foreign media, in recent years, private arms companies in India have significantly increased their investment in increasing military production.
Large industrial groups are investing heavily in ammunition, drones, aerospace and military electronics, and have now also focused on missile manufacturing facilities.
Adani Defence and Aerospace, a company owned by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and well-known businessman Gautam Adani, had also announced plans to invest more than 30 billion Indian rupees in ammunition and missile manufacturing facilities in Uttar Pradesh in 2024.
