Male security guard at Indore hospital tries to remove Muslim woman’s niqab
New Delhi: A male security guard attempted to remove the niqab of a Muslim woman at M Y Hospital in Indore, Madhya Pradesh and behaved inappropriately with her while she was at the hospital.
The woman, identified as Shaista, has said that the incident took place during the process of getting her ABHA card at the hospital. According to her, the male security guard attempted to remove her niqab, an act she says made her feel uncomfortable and violated her privacy and dignity.
Speaking to the media, Shaista said that the security guard tried to push her out. “I was trying to get the ABHA card. The guard tried to push me out, pulled my niqab, misbehaved with me and threatened me that he would shoot a video of me,” she said.
She further said that when she objected to the guard’s behaviour and told him that he had no right to treat her that way, another woman present in the OPD also joined the confrontation.
“When I resisted and told him that they had no right to misbehave with me and treat me like that, the other woman in the OPD joined and started misbehaving too,” she added.
The incident has triggered criticism on social media, with people questioning the conduct of security personnel at a government hospital and calling for the matter to be investigated.
One user wrote, “Why is the administration silent on Shaista’s serious allegations at M.Y. Hospital in Indore? If, while getting an ABHA card made, a male security guard forcibly removes her niqab and behaves indecently, this is extremely serious. Conduct an impartial investigation, bring the CCTV footage to light, and take strict action.”
Another user questioned the administration’s accountability, writing, “If a woman cannot expect dignity and safety inside a government hospital, what exactly is the administration accountable for? Investigation and action are not optional.”
