Massive military deployment belies India’s normalcy claims: IIOJK civil society
Group says 815,000 troops, 5,071 CASOs expose occupation, not security

Srinagar : Civil society members in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have said that India’s claims of normalcy in the occupied territory have completely collapsed in the face of its own massive military deployment and relentless operations since 5 August 2019.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the civil society, citing latest figures, said India’s militarized grip on IIOJK since 5 August 2019 has been a relentless campaign of occupation, not security. They said India’s occupation of IIOJK since 5 August 2019 stands exposed by its own scale of force and operations.
After abrogating Article 370, New Delhi massively expanded its military footprint.
Giving details, the civil society members said the current estimated strength includes 360,000 Indian Army troops including multiple corps and independent brigades, 65,000 Rashtriya Rifles, 100,000 CRPF, 105,000 Police, 76,000 BSF, 45,000 IAF and 64,000 others — a combined force exceeding 815,000 personnel blanketing the region.

They pointed out that the operational toll is stark. Since that date, 5,071 CASOs have swept through civilian areas, 400 encounters have taken place, including 40 staged as fake, 27 enticements at the Line of Control have been used to lure and eliminate targets, 1,371 properties have been attacked, and 197 houses fully destroyed with another 76 partially wrecked.
These figures, they said, reveal a systematic campaign of intimidation, extrajudicial killings and collective punishment under the cover of counter-insurgency. The overwhelming troop numbers and relentless operations demonstrate not security, but sustained military domination designed to crush resistance and erase political aspirations, the civil society members said.
They maintained that India’s claim of “normalcy” collapses under the weight of its own deployment and the trail of ruined homes and staged encounters.“This is not governance. It is brute force occupation sustained by overwhelming military numbers and zero accountability,” they added.
