New Delhi: Severe riots have once again erupted in the strife-torn Indian state of Manipur and the Bharatiya Janata Party government in India has completely failed to protect human rights or curb the violence in the state.
According to the Kashmir Media Service, following the killing of two Kuki women amidst the ongoing violence, armed individuals set two houses on fire and engaged in heavy gunfire.
The Indian newspaper “Deccan Herald” reported that the exchange of fire continued for approximately six hours.
Locals said several villagers have gone missing following the fresh outbreak of violence.
In the conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities—which began in May 2023—at least 306 people have been killed, 49 are missing, and thousands have been displaced.
It is worth noting that United Nations experts and international human rights organizations have repeatedly expressed concern regarding the rights of minorities in India and the ethnic violence in Manipur.
