NC slams misleading narrative on September 2026 resolution
2000 resolution was about pre-1953 status November 2024 on special status

Srinagar: National Conference has strongly defended the resolution moved by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the occupied Jammu and Kashmir’s Legislative Assembly seeking immediate restoration of full statehood, stating that the demand is democratic and categorical.
NC Jammu President Rattan Lal Gupta Advocate said the resolution is clear and seeks urgent restoration of full Statehood and is in addition to the resolutions passed by the Assembly on 26 June 2000 and 6 November 2024. He said the 2000 resolution was about pre-1953 status while the resolution of 6 November 2024 sought restoration of special status and constitutional guarantees.
The present resolution does not replace or subsume those earlier resolutions; it specifically seeks restoration of full statehood, a position clarified by the Chief Minister in the House. He said restoration of Statehood concerns the constitutional and democratic position of IIOJK and should not be converted into political controversy by selectively linking it with earlier resolutions.
Echoing similar views, NC Additional General Secretary and former minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra said, “Restoration of full statehood is a constitutional and democratic demand,” Sadhotra said, adding that Jammu and Kashmir is seeking restoration of the status it enjoyed before its conversion into a Union Territory.
Both leaders said the BJP is misleading the people of Jammu and Kashmir on the Statehood resolution and deliberately creating confusion. They said instead of participating constructively, placing objections on record and taking part in debate and voting, BJP members disrupted proceedings, entered the Well of the House, raised slogans and tore copies of the resolution, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House.
