Leh Apex Body urges India to hold talks on October 12 for talks on Ladakh future

Jammu: The Leh Apex Body (LAB) has proposed October 12, 13 and 14 as possible dates for the next meeting with Indian Ministry of Home Affairs on constitutional safeguards and an elected body for Ladakh.
LAB Chairman Tsering Dorjay Lakruk said the organization has conveyed the dates to the Indian Home Ministry and is awaiting confirmation.
The next round of dialogue will be held in Leh. It asked the ministry to finalise the date and communicate it to both LAB and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA).
The two bodies have finalised a joint response to nine questions raised by the Indian ministry on structure and functioning of the proposed Ladakh elected body.
The LAB and KDA are seeking an elected institution with legislative, financial and executive powers along with constitutional safeguards for Ladakh’s land, culture, environment and natural resources on lines of Articles 371A, 371F and 371G.
During September 09 meeting in New Delhi, Ladakh representatives were informed that the proposed body would have directly elected representatives. The ongoing dialogue follows May 22 understanding with India on democratic and constitutional safeguards.
Meanwhile, Ladakh administration has notified seven District Hill Development Councils.
