RTI activist and Assam Rifleman found dead at army Transit Camp in Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar: A Right-to-Information (RTI) activist and rifleman of the Indian Assam Rifles, Rakhini Mipi, was found dead under unexplained circumstances in the BJP-ruled Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh.

Rakhini Mipi, a rifleman of the 24th Assam Rifles and a prominent RTI activist, was found dead at an Indian Army transit camp in Hunli, Lower Dibang Valley district.

According to media reports, an Unnatural Death (UD) case has been registered at Hunli Police Station in connection with the incident.

Hunli Police Station Officer-in-Charge Inspector Mohon Mili told reporters that Mipi’s body was found hanging in the bathroom of an Army transit camp near the Circuit House.

Reports said Mipi was travelling with his unit to Anini to participate in an armed forces warfare exercise. The 24th Assam Rifles unit had reached Hunli on the evening of October 3 and was scheduled to proceed to Anini.

Police said that the body was taken to Roing for a post-mortem examination and was subsequently handed over to Mipi’s family.

The police have not ruled out the possibility of foul play, according to the reports. However, officials said they would examine this aspect after recording statements from Mipi’s family members.

The circumstances surrounding the death of the young rifleman and RTI activist remain under investigation.
