IIOJK Dy CM equates prevailing situation in India with emergency

Jammu: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary has questioned the detention of opposition leaders and curbs imposed to prevent their protest in New Delhi, asking if the current situation was not akin to emergency.

Choudhary said protest is a democratic right and detention is wrong.

“The allegations against the Indian Chief Election Commissioner have been made by his own colleagues — the two other Election Commissioners. The allegations against CEC warrant an investigation and therefore he should resign on moral grounds. BJP leaders, off and on, refer to the emergency and criticise it. But is the prevailing situation less serious than an emergency? What do the curbs in the Indian capital, completely paralysing it, convey? They raise questions over democratic rights,” he said on the sidelines of a public function in Jammu.

He was responding to media queries about developments unfolding in New Delhi amid the Congress party’s call for protest and detention of its leaders.

Choudhary asserted that there was a need for a transparent voting process to strengthen democracy and make it vibrant.

The Deputy Chief Minister criticised the use of force against young protesters, particularly women. He said the BJP is diverting attention from real issues like unemployment by labelling protesters who raise genuine issues as anti-India.
