Under pressure, CUK forced to launch probe into harassment of female student

Srinagar: Under mounting pressure from students, the Central University of Kashmir in occupied Jammu and Kashmir has been forced to launch a probe into harassment of a female student in Ganderbal.

The university has directed all students of its Department of Biotechnology at Nunar Campus to attend a committee briefing on October 13 as part of the inquiry.

In a communication issued on October 10, the university’s Proctorial Wing asked the head of the department to ensure that all students are available for the briefing, scheduled for 11 am, to provide information relevant to the investigation.

The inquiry follows a protest by students at the university’s Nunar campus in Ganderbal on September 30 over allegations that a female student had been harassed by the head of the department. The protest had prompted the university administration to initiate an internal inquiry, with the committee constituted through an order dated October 5.
