Over 50 villages in IIOJK’s Uri without electricity for four days amid administrative apathy

Srinagar: More than 50 villages in the Uri area of Baramulla district in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have been without electricity for four consecutive days, while the Uri-Baramulla road remains blocked by landslides triggered by heavy rainfall, amid growing public anger over the authorities’ slow response.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the landslides uprooted electricity poles and damaged power infrastructure, plunging dozens of villages into darkness. The continued disruption has raised concerns over the IIOJK authorities’ failure to restore essential services and road connectivity promptly.
Local residents have expressed strong resentment over the delay in restoring electricity and reopening of the road. They said the road was their only link with other parts of the Kashmir Valley, adding that debris-clearing operations were proceeding at an extremely slow pace, leaving the road closed and disrupting normal life.
They said that the landslides had severely damaged the power infrastructure, including a 33-kilovolt (kV) transmission line and several electricity poles, leaving more than 50 villages without electricity for four days.
Residents said repeated road closures were disrupting daily travel, the transportation of essential commodities and access to vital services, while commuters were being forced to take lengthy alternative routes, adding to their difficulties.
They urged the administration and relevant departments to speed up debris removal, restore traffic on the Uri-Baramulla road and repair the damaged electricity infrastructure without further delay to provide relief to the affected population.
