IIOJK: Indian police arrest five Kashmiris in Islamabad district

Srinagar: Indian police have arrested five Kashmiris in Islamabad district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to Kashmir Media Service, police arrested Azaan Nabi and Majid Ahmad Dar in Mir Dantar, Sheikh Umais Qayyum in Sarnal, and Mohammad Shafi Butt and Danish Hassan Sheikh in the Sakras area of the district.

To justify their arrests, police have accused them of involvement in drug peddling.

The arrest of Kashmiris by Indian forces on various baseless charges has become a routine occurrence across IIOJK. Such actions, Kashmir watchers say, are aimed at punishing Kashmiris for challenging Indian occupation and to intimidating them into abandoning their struggle for freedom.

Around 3,000 Kashmiris, including Hurriyat leaders, activists and ordinary youth, are currently imprisoned in jails and detention centres under draconian laws such as the Public Safety Act (PSA) and the UAPA. These detainees are deprived of basic facilities, including adequate medical care. Many of these are facing prolonged detention without fair trial.
