‘Dictator trying to scare me by misusing agencies’: Former IIOJK governor condemns CBI raid on his house

New Delhi: Former governor of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir Satya Pal Malik has condemned the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raid on his house, saying he will not be scared by such actions.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Satya Pal Malik said the searches at his premises were an offshoot of his complaint exposing people involved in corruption.

In a post on X, he said, “I had complained against people accused of corruption. But CBI raided my house instead of searching them. The dictator is trying to scare me by misusing government agencies”. Malik added that he is son of a farmer and that he won’t be cowed down or be afraid of such actions.

“I have been ill for the past 3-4 days and am hospitalised. Despite this, the government agencies are raiding my house on direction from the dictator. My driver, assistant have been raided and are being harassed”, he said in another post.

Earlier on Thursday, about 100 CBI officials had gone to Malik’s house and 29 other premises across multiple Indian cities to carry out searches in connection with the Kiru Hydropower project developed over Chenab River in IIOJK’s Doda district.

Malik had served as IIOJK’s governor between August 23, 2018, and October 30, 2019. He had created a flutter while he was governor of India’s Meghalaya state after he revealed that he was offered Rs 300 crore for clearing two files, including the one pertaining to the hydro power project. He has criticised the Modi government on several occasions, on issues ranging from the 2019 Pulwama attack to alleged corruption in Goa, where he was the Governor after being shifted out of IIOJ&K. He also criticised the Modi government on the farmers’ protests and raised questions over the abrogation of Article 370.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, in a post on X targeting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said: “…If the former Governor tells the truth, then send CBI to his house — this is the Mother of Democracy?…”
