‘New parliament of India resemble a 5-star jail’: Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut attacks Modi govt

New Delhi: Shiv Sena leader, Sanjay Raut took a dig at the Modi led Indian government and launched a scathing criticism of the current parliamentary setup, likening the new parliament building to a “five-star jail” where productivity is severely hampered.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Shiv Sena (UBT-Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader and Member Parliament, Sanjay Raut, speaking to media persons said, “The new parliament is like a five-star jail where you can’t work”. Expressing frustration over the problems faced by legislators, he said Central Vista in New Delhi (new parliament building) is neither fit for work nor fit for sitting.

Raut further announced his party’s intention to relocate parliamentary sessions to the old parliament building if the opposition INDIA bloc is voted to power in the upcoming general elections.

Indian PM Modi inaugurated the country’s new parliament building in Delhi in May 2023. The building was built at a cost of INR 971 crore and can accommodate 888 members in the Lok Sabha and 300 members in the Rajya Sabha. However, several teething issues came to the fore after the proceedings shifted to the new building during a special session of Parliament in September, last year. Some opposition MPs complained that one needed binoculars to see each other in the complex.

Further, launching a veiled attack on PM Modi’s vision of crossing the 400 mark in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Raut said, “PM Modi should set a target of 600 instead of 400 for the 2024 elections. The ‘400 mark’ is very low.”

Raut also slammed Modi over the increasing number of suicide cases concerning farmers.

Earlier this month, Sanjay Raut questioned the Modi led Indian government regarding its resistance against the ongoing farmers’ protest on the Delhi borders. Raut said the way farmers are being stopped is not right and hundreds of farmers have been injured till now.
