Holy month of Ramadan will commence from tomorrow in IIOJK
Srinagar: The holy month of Ramadan will begin in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) from tomorrow as the Crescent moon has been sighted, announced Grand Mufti of the territory Nasir-ul Islam.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mufti Nasir-ul Islam in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “The first day of the fasting month of Ramadan will be on Tuesday in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The Crescent moon has been sighted, and there is enough evidence.”
He stated that after thorough consultations with the 10-member committee, which includes Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Maulana Rehmatullah and other Islamic scholars, it has been unanimously decided that the first day of the fasting month will be Tuesday in Kashmir.
Mufti Nasir extended his greetings to the people of Kashmir on the occasion of the beginning of the fasting month, saying that people should pray and read the Quran in this month and seek repentance from the Almighty. He also mentioned that the first Taraweeh (late-night prayers) will commence from today (Monday).
Meanwhile, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in his poignant message extended his heartfelt greetings to the Muslims of Jammu and Kashmir and the global Ummah on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan.
He said, “The arrival of Ramadan presents us with a precious chance to draw nearer to the Almighty, marking not merely a period of fasting from dawn to dusk, but a deeply spiritual voyage that beckons us to engage in prayer, reflection, and to delve into the profound teachings of the Holy Quran.
It is worth mentioning here that the people of IIOJK observe Ramadan and Eid with Pakistan as they consider Jammu and Kashmir a part of the country.
