Fact-checker Zubair booked in UP for sharing video of Hindu priest’s remarks

New Delhi:A fresh case has been filed against Mohammad Zubair, co-founder of Alt-News, in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, India, for posting videos of Hindu priest Yati Narsinghanand, making blasphemous remarks.

Instead of arresting the Hindu priest involved in blasphemy, an FIR has been filed against Mohammad Zubair, co-founder of Alt-News, in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, for highlighting the blasphemous remarks of Yati Narsinghanand.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the complaint was lodged by Udita Tyagi, General Secretary of Yati Narsimahanand Saraswati Foundation, who accused Zubair of posting a video clipping of Yati Narsinghanand on October 3 to “provoke violence by Muslims against him”.

This development comes amid rising tensions, with Muslims gathering outside the Dasna Devi temple in Ghaziabad to protest against Narsinghanand’s inflammatory remarks.

The FIR against Zubair was registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion.

This isn’t the first time Zubair has faced targeting. Previously, he has been subjected to various forms of harassment and legal challenges due to his work in fact-checking and countering misinformation, particularly related to religious and social issues in India. This recent FIR is another example of the challenges faced by those seeking to promote truth and accountability in India.
