Tamil Nadu train accident– technical team points to possible sabotage
New Delhi: A technical team investigating the Tamil Nadu train collision has raised suspicions of sabotage after inspecting the accident site at Kavaraippettai railway station.
Accoridng to Kashmir Media Service, the team, comprising senior railway officials from Signal & Telecom, Engineering and Operations Department, found evidence suggesting tampering with the interlocking system.
On October 11, the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express collided with a stationary goods train, injuring nine passengers. The investigation revealed mechanical parts of the interlocking system were intentionally opened, indicating potential sabotage.
“The interlocking system’s mechanical parts are normally damaged due to impact during accidents, but in this case, they were found opened, suggesting external interference,” Indian media reported citing sources close to the inspection team as having said.
The officials suspect the perpetrators gained knowledge from a well-trained individual and had previously attempted to subvert the safety system at nearby locations. “This incident may be the result of their gained experience and successful implementation of their plan,” the source added.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to identify those responsible and determine the motive behind the suspected sabotage.
