Srinagar: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for provision of fair compensation and a government job to the family of a 12-year-old boy killed in a landmine explosion, planted by Indian army, in south Kashmir’s Islamabad district.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the victim, identified as Shahid Yousaf from Larnoo Kokernag, was fatally injured when a landmine exploded near the boundary wall of the Khundroo Army camp, where he was living with his maternal grandparents.
PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, in a post on X said, “Despite being rushed first to a local hospital in Anantnag and later to the Army’s 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar, Shahid tragically succumbed to his injuries”.
The PDP chief described Shahid as belonging to a poor family, now left devastated by the tragedy. “The government must show compassion in this case by providing fair compensation and offering a government job to the family, so that they may find some hope and support during these dark times,” she added.
The explosion occurred on Sunday when the landmine, reportedly planted by army, went off. The boy succumbed to his injuries on Monday.
