93pc of Lok Sabha members have become millionaires or billionaires: Report
New Delhi: An Indian research institute, the Association for Democratic Reforms, has revealed in its latest report that 93 percent of the members sitting in the lower house of Indian Parliament, the Lok Sabha, have become millionaires or billionaires.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the report says that the largest number of such members belong to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Out of the total 240 BJP members of the assembly, 235 are millionaires or billionaires and only five members have assets of less than Rs 1 crore.
It may be recalled that before the formation of the BJP government under the leadership of Narendra Modi in 2014, the party had won the elections by raising the slogan that it would eliminate the elite culture from India and bring a people’s government, but in just 10 years, the tide has turned and the BJP has become the richest political party in India.
The common Indian is miserable, but Modi’s tenacity is broken by his hostility towards Pakistan.
The report says that democracy in India has now become a source of income for those who contest elections. Therefore, the government system needs to be freed from the clutches of corrupt elites, not reforms, so that the common man can get rid of poverty, unemployment and inflation.
