BJP, RSS undermining constitutional principles in India: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi: In India, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has said the BJP and RSS are working against the core principles of the Constitution, saying their policies do not align with the idea of equality and justice for all citizens.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Rahul Gandhi was addressing participants at the launch of the ‘Run for Ambedkar, Run for Constitution’ marathon held at Mandi House in New Delhi ahead of Ambedkar Jayanti, observed annually on April 14. He emphasized that the Constitution, shaped under the leadership of B. R. Ambedkar, forms the foundation of India’s identity and any attempt to weaken it would affect the country’s basic structure.
He said that while the ruling establishment makes public gestures of respect towards constitutional values, its actions reflect a different approach that does not uphold equal rights in practice. He reiterated that the Congress party remains committed to protecting and strengthening constitutional principles.
Rahul Gandhi said the marathon was aimed at spreading awareness about constitutional rights and the need to safeguard them across the country. He also participated in the event along with party workers and supporters, highlighting the importance of collective efforts in defending democratic values.
In a social media post later, he described the event as a reflection of the party’s dedication to Ambedkar’s vision and stressed the need for a united response to injustice and discrimination.
Former Indian cricket captain and Telangana minister Mohammad Azharuddin also attended the event and supported the initiative, saying such campaigns should be expanded nationwide to promote unity and progress.
Observers say the remarks come amid growing political debate in India over the interpretation and implementation of constitutional values, particularly concerning equality, minority rights, and democratic freedoms.
