Hindu man beaten in Delhi after being mistaken for Muslim

New Delhi: Exposing the alarming rise of Islamophobia in India, a Hindu man was brutally beaten by Hindutva vigilantes in Delhi after being mistaken for a Muslim while transporting a dead animal for burial.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the victim, Sanjay Sharma, was assaulted by a group linked to Bajrang Dal in the upscale Dwarka area of Southwest Delhi. The attackers suspected him of cattle transport and launched the assault in the presence of police.

A video circulating on social media shows the group surrounding and hitting Sharma while police stood by. The attack stopped only after it emerged that the victim was a Hindu, not a Muslim as the mob had assumed.

Eyewitnesses said, “He was being beaten in front of everyone. Police were there, but the attack still happened.” Residents added that the incident highlights how Muslims are being targeted over rumours, with vigilantes taking the law into their own hands.
