SHO among 4 cops suspended for mishandling sexual abuse cases against minor in Jammu

Jammu: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, four police personnel, including the Station House Officer, have been suspended in Samba district over allegations of gross incompetence and non-professional conduct in a Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) case, officials said.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Samba SSP Anuj Kumar suspended the Ramgarh SHO, a probationary Sub-Inspector and two Assistant Sub-Inspectors for dereliction of duty after they were accused of facilitating an illegal “compromise” in a case registered under the POCSO.
The SSP has ordered a departmental inquiry to ascertain facts and fix responsibility, exposing serious malpractices in handling a sensitive case involving a minor.
Legal experts note that any attempt to compromise POCSO cases reflects both procedural violations and disregard for victims’ rights. Following the action, Inspector Ajay Singh Chib has been posted as the new Ramgarh SHO and an SPO transferred to Goran Police Chowki.
The incident has raised fresh questions over professionalism and accountability within Indian Police.
