Father stabs daughter to death inside UP police station

Murder exposes India’s caste horror, fails minorities again

Lucknow: A 19-year-old girl was stabbed to death by her father inside a police station in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh, exposing how minority and marginalized communities remain unsafe even under state protection.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Shivani Chauhan, from an Other Backward Class community, was murdered by her father Satya Kumar Chauhan at Badausa police station in Banda district. She had married 20-year-old Lalit Verma, a Dalit man, of her own free will after registering the marriage legally.

Police had recovered the couple and brought them to the station for medical examination and statement. During counselling, Shivani refused to return home with her parents. Her mother, Ranno, allegedly held her from behind while her father attacked her with a knife in front of police. She sustained multiple stab wounds and died in hospital. The killing has raised serious questions about police protection for inter-caste couples and the unchecked rise of honour-based violence under the BJP government.

Activists condemned it as a brutal example of caste prejudice and institutional failure, saying the incident shows how Muslims and lower-caste citizens continue to face extreme vulnerability across India.
