APHC-AJK leaders express concern over plight of Kashmiri political detainees

Islamabad: Leaders of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter have expressed grave concern over the worsening condition of Kashmiri political detainees lodged in Indian and Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) jails, and urged the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and international human rights organizations to take immediate notice of the situation and work for their early release.
According to Kashmir Media Service, senior Hurriyat leader Mehmood Ahmad Saghar, Zahid Safi, and Adeel Mushtaq Wani, in a joint statement issued in Islamabad, said that Kashmiri political prisoners were being deprived of all basic human rights, including access to adequate medical care, proper food, and legal assistance, in clear violation of international human rights standards.
They said that due to the lack of medical facilities, several Kashmiri detainees have developed serious health complications. The leaders also expressed concern over India’s continued disregard for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Geneva Conventions, and reports of the UN Human Rights Commission on Jammu and Kashmir issued in 2018 and 2019.
They further said that the Indian government is pursuing a policy aimed at changing the demographic composition of IIOJK, in violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions.
The APHC-AJK leaders urged the United Nations to take notice of New Delhi’s rigid stance on the Kashmir dispute and to play its role in ensuring a peaceful resolution in accordance with UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
