Women protest year-long water crisis in Srinagar locality

Srinagar : In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, women residents of Basant Bagh in Srinagar staged a protest against a prolonged drinking water crisis, saying the shortage has persisted for over a year and worsened amid the ongoing heatwave.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the protesters said they are forced to fetch water from different locations daily to meet basic household needs. “We do not have a water supply in Basant Bagh. We are facing difficulties day and night,” one of the protesters said.
“On top of that, there is a heatwave. Men can go to the mosque for washing, but where will women go?” Another woman said that despite repeated representations to the Public Health Engineering department, no action has been taken.
“We have repeatedly approached the Chief Engineer, who assured us action would be taken. But field officers are not acting,” she said.
The protesters demanded immediate restoration of regular water supply, and said the government should either resolve the issue or relocate them. They also complained of erratic electricity supply, saying the twin problems have made life increasingly difficult.
