Jammu varsity bans 3 authors, blacklists 2 publishers over book on legends

Jammu : In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the University of Jammu, on instructions by the Lt. Governor administration, has banned three authors and blacklisted two publishers linked to the book Personalities and Legends of J&K, and directed all departments to withdraw their publications from libraries and digital repositories.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the action was taken in compliance with occupation regime’s Order No. 257-JK(Edu) of 2026 issued on July 4.The circular names Hilal Ahmad, Santosh Meena and Dr Sushant Giri as banned authors. Oberoi Book Service, Jammu, and Anurag Prakashan, Delhi, have been blacklisted as publishers.
The University has instructed departments not to procure material from the listed authors and publishers in future, and to remove such publications from offices, departmental libraries and digital repositories. It has also ordered a comprehensive audit and asked Departmental Advisory Committees to screen books for “anti-national, separatist or objectionable content.”
The decision comes amid police investigation into the book. The Counter Intelligence wing has arrested three persons, including a Jammu-based publisher and a Delhi-based printer, in connection with allegations that the publication glorified Hurriyat leadership.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha earlier suspended eight School Education Department officials and ordered an inquiry into two books found to contain “highly inappropriate content.”
