Blood and despair mark India’s failed war on Maoists
New Delhi: India’s self-congratulatory claim that Left-Wing Extremism has been defeated is a “grotesque farce,” soaked in the blood of forces personnel and the crushed hopes of tribal populations, as Maoist violence continues to persist across the country in 2026.
According to Kashmir Media Service, despite New Delhi declaring victory and claiming the Red Corridor has been reduced to a “pathetic remnant,” Maoists are sustaining the insurgency through asymmetric tactics that mock the government’s triumphalism.
Regular, lethal IED strikes on District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel continue to expose official lies. The January 2025 Bijapur massacre — where a 60–70 kg IED killed eight DRG jawans and a driver — set the tone, while Maoists detonated at least nine explosions in early 2026 alone. IEDs remain a favored weapon as insurgents adapt to heavy security deployments.
Security data exposes an expensive stalemate. While overall fatalities dropped early in 2026 with just six deaths — five civilians and one security force personnel — from 42 incidents by late March, the human and financial toll over decades remains staggering. Cumulative security force deaths since 2000 exceed 2,700, with fresh 2026 operations still producing IED injuries to DRG and CoBRA personnel.
Analysts say heavy-handed security responses — intensified “encounters,” mass operations, and allegations of extrajudicial killings — are ruthlessly alienating tribal communities. Adivasis, trapped between Maoist coercion and state brutality over land, forests, and mining interests, continue to fuel localized recruitment. “Socio-economic grievances remain unaddressed, with resource exploitation prioritizing corporate profits over genuine rights or development,” observers noted.
India’s militarized, kinetic-first obsession has failed for decades. In 2026, the insurgency is not eradicated — it is a permanent indictment of New Delhi’s arrogance, indifference, and incompetence. “The bloody cycle grinds on,” the report said.
