Delhi Police breaks into CPI-M headquarters to arrest party leaders
New Delhi: Delhi Police forcibly entered the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) headquarters, in New Delhi, in an attempt to arrest Students’ Federation of India (SFI) leader Aishe Ghosh, in what the party called a “brazen intrusion” into a political party office.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the illegal attempt was firmly resisted by CPI-M Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas, who intervened on the spot and stopped police from carrying out the action inside the party headquarters.
Party said the police personnel arrived in a private vehicle, with some of them not in uniform. They left the premises after being questioned by party leaders.
The CPI-M strongly condemned the police onslaught, saying the move exposes the Modi government’s escalating assault on democratic rights. It said that instead of addressing the legitimate concerns of students, the state is using police power to intimidate, silence and criminalise dissent.
“The continuing witch hunt against student protesters is unacceptable. We stand firmly with students fighting for justice, education, and democracy,” the party said in a statement.
The CPI-M demanded an explanation from the government for sending police into the headquarters of a political party without due process.
