Lahore seminar pays tribute to Shaikh Abdul Aziz on 18th martyrdom anniversary
Lahore: A seminar was held in Lahore to pay tribute to prominent Kashmir freedom leader Shaikh Abdul Aziz on his 18th martyrdom anniversary. The event was jointly organized by the Kashmir Centre Lahore and the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Shaikh Abdul Aziz was martyred by Indian troops on August 11, 2008, when leading a mammoth march from Srinagar towards the Line of Control in protest against the economic blockade imposed on the Kashmir Valley by Hindu extremists in Jammu.
The speakers paid rich tribute to Shaikh Abdul Aziz, saying that his struggle, sacrifice and steadfastness continue to serve as a source of inspiration for the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). They said he devoted his entire life to the struggle for the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people and remained committed to his principled position even during the most difficult phases of the movement.
They said that Shaikh Abdul Aziz had a deep love and commitment to Pakistan and laid down his for his cause. They said his struggle demonstrated that securing a people’s fundamental rights, dignity and political future requires a peaceful, principled and steadfast struggle. They said his sacrifice would always be remembered in the history of the Kashmiri people’s struggle.
They said the sacrifices of Shaikh Abdul Aziz and other martyrs of the Kashmir freedom movement had written an unforgettable chapter in the history of the Kashmiri people’s struggle and would never be forgotten.
They urged the international community to take serious notice of the human rights situation in IIOJK, play an effective role in safeguarding the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people and fulfill its responsibilities towards a just and lasting resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
The seminar concluded with prayers for the forgiveness and elevation of the ranks of Shaikh Abdul Aziz and all martyrs of the Kashmir freedom movement, as well as for the early liberation of Kashmir from Indian occupation.
The speakers included APHC-AJK leader Engineer Mushtaq Mahmood, Kashmir Centre Lahore In-charge Inam-ul-Hassan, senior vice president of the PML-N Lawyers Wing Syed Manzoor Gilani Advocate, Kashmir Action Committee Secretary Farooq Azad, Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party leader Bilal Mukhtar Butt, Agha Rabnawaz, Nisar Baig, Nazeer Mir, Parvez Jaan and others.
