Jharkhand House adjourned after ruckus over police action on protesters
Ranchi : The Jharkhand Assembly was adjourned sine die, a day before schedule, after BJP MLAs created a ruckus over baton charge on students protesting irregularities in recruitment examinations.
According to Kashmir Media Service, as soon as the House met at 11 am, BJP legislators trooped into the well and raised slogans against the government over Monday’s police action on job aspirants. Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato adjourned proceedings twice, first till noon and then till 2 pm.
When the House reassembled, Chief Minister Hemant Soren said a CID probe into the irregularities was underway and claimed students had accepted reform measures proposed by the government.
“The government’s intention to bring reforms in the examination system and to conduct a probe is clear,” he said. Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi sought Soren’s response on the use of baton charge, tear gas and water cannons against students.
Congress MLA Pradip Yadav alleged that BJP-backed miscreants had indulged in violence during the peaceful demonstration. Amid continued uproar, the Speaker adjourned the House sine die with “a heavy heart and pain”.
Meanwhile, students under the banner of JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch took out a silent procession in Ranchi as their protest entered the 18th day. Soren said over 8,500 suggestions on examination reforms had been received from students.
