BJP turning Independence Day into political spectacle: Uddhav Sena

Mumbai: The Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) has said the BJP is turning India’s Independence Day into a political event, saying the national day has taken on a “festive and partisan tone” over the past decade.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in an editorial in party mouthpiece Saamana, the Thackeray camp said initiatives like ‘Tiranga Yatra’ and ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ were aimed at projecting the ruling party as the “primary creators and protectors” of the national flag.
It said organisations that were absent from the freedom struggle are now leading rallies, while thousands of freedom fighters sacrificed their lives holding the tricolour.
The editorial also recalled that the RSS headquarters in Nagpur did not hoist the Indian flag for years after Independence. “Figures leading 15 August’s rallies did not participate in the independence movement or face baton charges. Now substantial funds are being spent on cutouts and rallies to bolster public standing,” the editorial said, alleging the BJP is using Independence Day for political gains amid mounting protests and challenges.
