2 killed, 2 injured in Manipur attack, LNC-M declares shutdown

Kangpokp: In Manipur, tension is high in Taphou area after reports of firing between armed groups and Liangmai Naga villagers.

According to Kashmir MediaService, the incident is linked to ongoing hostilities in Kangpokpi district involving suspected Kuki militants. Groups including the Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur (LNC-M) and the Working Committee of Tangkhul Naga Long have condemned recent attacks on Liangmai villages and called for immediate protection of civilians.

On August 14, 2026, LNC-M reported that two Naga village volunteers were killed and two others injured in an attack at Langka Naga village in Kangpokpi.

The council has since declared an emergency total shutdown across all Liangmai Naga-inhabited areas of Manipur, with only essential services exempted.

Naga bodies have urged security forces to intervene immediately to prevent further escalation and loss of civilian lives. Police said an investigation is underway.

Authorities have appealed for calm as the situation remains volatile in Kangpokpi and adjoining hill districts.
