Mushtaq Wani, Dr Abdul Aala, Sheikh Tajammul-ul-Islam remembered for their services to Kashmir movement
Muzaffarabad: A ceremony was held in Muzaffarabad under the auspices of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter to pay tribute to prominent leaders of the Kashmir freedom movement, Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, Dr Abdul Aala, and Shaikh Tajammul-ul-Islam, on their death anniversaries.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the ceremony was presided over by APHC-AJK Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi. The participants paid tribute to the three deceased leaders for their valuable services, exemplary struggle and lasting sacrifices for the Kashmir freedom movement. Fateha was also offered for the departed souls.
Ghulam Muhammad Safi said the struggle and sacrifices of Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, Dr. Abdul Aala and Sheikh Tajamul-ul-Islam would be written in golden letters in the history of the Kashmir freedom movement.
He said that the continued unresolved status of the Kashmir dispute remained a major question for the international community, particularly the United Nations. He noted that the UNSC’s resolutions on Kashmir have remained in place for decades, but the dispute continued to remain unresolved due to the lack of effective implementation.
Ghulam Muhammad Safi said India’s intransigence and the ongoing repression in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir were major obstacles to resolving the Kashmir dispute.
He urged the government of Pakistan to accord greater priority to the Kashmir issue in its national, foreign and diplomatic policies, intensify efforts to highlight the dispute at the international level, continue political and moral support for the Kashmiri people, and step up diplomatic efforts for its just resolution.
Other speakers reiterated their resolve that the sacrifices of the great leaders and martyrs of the Kashmir freedom movement would not be allowed to go in vain. They said it was the responsibility of the present generation to carry forward their unfinished mission, adding that the Kashmiri people would continue their political, diplomatic and peaceful struggle until they achieved their fundamental right to self-determination.
The speakers said the journey of sacrifices would continue until the Kashmiri people were granted the right to decide their future in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions and international principles.
The ceremony was attended by AJK Prime Minister’s spokesperson Shaukat Javed, former minister Khawaja Farooq, Pakistan Peoples Party leader Dr. Taqaddus Gilani, senior Hurriyat leader Shamim Shawl, Sheikh Muhammad Yaqub, Syed Gulshan, Mushtaq-ul-Islam, Abdul Majeed Mir, Mushtaq Ahmad Butt, Chaudhry Ferozuddin, Uzair Ghazali, Iqbal Awan, Raja Arif Khan, Usman Ali Hashmi, Siddiq Dawood, Hamza Shaheen, Qari Bilal Farooqi, Dr. Younis Mir, Jahangir Qureshi, Naseer Mir, Muhammad Ishaq, Maqsood Butt, Haider Kashmiri, Rahim Shah, Zia Khan Durrani and others.
