Police constable arrested for ramming SHO in IIOJK

Analysts link stress, repression to violent outbursts within Indian forces

Srinagar: A police constable was arrested for ramming a Station House Officer (SHO) with his vehicle in south Kashmir’s Islamabad district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, SHO Police Station Bijbehara, Majid Ahmad Khan, was injured after being hit by a vehicle while performing official duty near the Bijbehara police station.

The officer sustained injuries and was immediately shifted to Sub-District Hospital Bijbehara for initial treatment. He was later referred to the Bone and Joint Hospital in Srinagar for specialized care.

The constable, identified as SGCT Khurshid Ahmad Wani, was arrested on Monday for hitting and injuring SHO Majid Ahmad Khan near the Bijbehara police station, officials said.

Further investigation into the incident is underway, police said.

However, observers link such incidents within Indian police and paramilitary ranks in the occupied territory to mounting occupational stress, lack of accountability mechanisms, and deteriorating working conditions under prolonged military presence. They argue that constant pressure, absence of grievance redressal, and the coercive environment contribute to growing frustration and breakdowns among personnel, often resulting in violent outbursts even within the forces.
