Lawyers boycott courts in protest against absence of IIOJK HC bench in Kargil

Kargil: In Ladakh region of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Kargil Bar Association has boycotted courts to press for the establishment of a dedicated circuit bench of the IIOJK High Court in Kargil.
The Association is demanding a regular functioning High Court bench in the district, citing the region’s harsh geographical conditions and the volume of pending cases that warrant such a facility. The protest will continue till September 24.
The protest comes amid reports that a High Court bench is proposed to be established in Leh, prompting the Kargil Bar to seek a similar facility for Kargil in the interest of litigants and the legal fraternity.
“The suspension of court work will continue till September 24. We are seeking regular functioning of the High Court bench at Kargil in the interest of litigants and the legal fraternity,” President of Kargil Bar Association, Riyaz Ahmed Khan told reporters. He said litigants from far-flung areas of Kargil face immense hardships due to difficult terrain and lack of direct access to the High Court, making a local bench an urgent necessity.
