Indian SC adjourns hearing on CBI’s plea against Yasin Malik to April 4
New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India has deferred to April 4 the hearing on the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) plea seeking to transfer the trial of jailed JKLF chief Mohammad Yasin Malik and others in two fake cases from Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) to Delhi.
According to Kashmir Media Service, a bench comprising Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan adjourned the matter due to Solicitor General Tushar Mehta’s unavailability. Yasin Malik, appearing via video conferencing, requested postponement until after Ramzan, which the bench accepted.
The CBI seeks the transfer of trials related to two incidents occurring in Srinagar in 1989 and 1990.
The court had earlier directed IIOJK’s High Court registrar general to ensure proper video conferencing facilities at the Jammu special court for hearings.
The CBI claims that Yasin Malik poses a security threat and should not be taken outside Tihar Jail, where he remains imprisoned after being sentenced to life by a special NIA court in a fabricated case.
