ECI lacks authority to alter Form 6: Congress

Youth now required to provide details about grandparents for first time: Spokesperson

New Delhi: The Congress party has stated that the Election Commission of India has created a new hurdle for young voters by modifying Form 6 in early July of this year without issuing any formal notification.

According to Kashmir Media Service,addressing a press conference in New Delhi said that Form 6 cannot be altered without amending the Voter Registration Rules of 1960, a process that requires the central government to inform Parliament.

She noted that under the Special Summary Revision, the names of youth turning eighteen are annually added to the voter list, but this process has been halted since 2024.

She stated that a new clause was added to Form 6 in July, requiring first-time voters to provide information regarding whether their parents or grandparents were registered as voters during the previous special summary revision exercise.

The spokesperson remarked that the votes of the youth are now also being tampered with.
