Calls for Chief Election Commissioner's resignation intensify

New Delhi: Protests and demands for resignations have intensified in India following questions raised regarding irregularities in the electoral process and voter lists under the Modi regime.

According to Kashmir Media Service, India’s electoral system is facing severe criticism on the global stage as well. International media and experts have expressed deep concerns regarding the conduct of free and fair elections in the country.

A report by the international publication The Straits Times states that police fired teargas at Congress protesters demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

According to the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)—which had previously removed an Indian Education Minister over examination irregularities—has demanded the Chief Election Commissioner’s resignation over rigging in voter lists.

According to the Indian outlet The Wire, Indian police detained students and citizens who were protesting against irregularities in voter lists after subjecting them to harassment.

Experts on domestic affairs state that the electoral controversy in India has sparked fresh concerns regarding the integrity of free and fair elections in the country.
