300 FTII alumni condemn attack on students for ‘Remember Babri’ banner
New Delhi: Over 300 alumni of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) have come forward in solidarity with the institute’s students after a violent attack by a Hindutva mob.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the assailants targeted students for displaying a banner condemning the 1992 demolition of the Babri Masjid.
The open letter, signed by prominent FTII alumni, including Oscar-winner Resul Pookutty and veteran director Saeed Mirza, strongly condemned the brutal assault on students. The incident unfolded after the RSS/BJP’s consecration ceremony of the Ram temple, constructed at the demolished site of the historic Babri Masjid.
The Hindutva mob, associated with groups like BJP, RSS, Bajrang Dal, and VHP, stormed the FTII campus, overpowering security personnel. They attacked students while shouting “Jai Shri Ram” and destroyed a banner that read: “Remember Babri, Death of Constitution.”
FTII alumni expressed their pain at witnessing students of the prestigious film school being assaulted with impunity. The alumni, comprising film professionals, educators, and renowned artists, extended their support to the FTII student community during this challenging time.
The open letter called for prompt action against the perpetrators of the violence and emphasized the inexcusable inaction of the police in investigating and holding those responsible accountable.
The alumni appealed to the relevant authorities to safeguard the students and investigate the security breach on the FTII campus, expressing their deep affection and regard for the institution that played a crucial role in shaping them into film professionals.
