The Wire equates Modi with Hitler over Kejriwal’s arrest

New Delhi: The arrest of Arvind Kejriwal, the popular Chief Minister of Delhi, by the Narendra Modi-led government has ignited concerns about the erosion of the rule of law in India, wrote India’s distinguished web portal, The Wire.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Kejriwal’s detention marks a significant departure from democratic norms, with Modi seemingly crossing the line between upholding the rule of law and wielding authoritarian power, The Wire added in an article written by Prem Shankar Jha.

Since assuming office in 2014, Modi has gradually encroached upon democratic principles, leveraging his position to consolidate power and suppress opposition voices. His tactics have drawn comparisons to historical autocrats, such as Hitler.

Modi’s relentless pursuit of dominance has seen the manipulation of investigative agencies to target political rivals, leaving few opposition parties unscathed. Now, with Kejriwal’s arrest, Modi has set his sights on one of the last bastions of opposition.

Kejriwal’s steadfast opposition to Modi’s regime, coupled with his commitment to governance and welfare, has made him a thorn in the side of the ruling party. His arrest, ostensibly over a liquor policy, is viewed as a thinly veiled attempt to silence dissent and consolidate power, the web portal said.

Critics argue that Kejriwal’s defiance against Modi’s authoritarianism serves as a rallying cry for democratic forces across India. The arrest has galvanized opposition parties, prompting renewed efforts to combat the erosion of constitutional safeguards and uphold democratic values.
