BJP-led Rajasthan govt’s directive on Article 370 revocation draws flak from Congress

Jaipur: The Congress chapter in Rajasthan has strongly criticized the BJP-led state government’s recent directive to celebrate the illegal abrogation of Article 370 in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, calling it a blatant attempt to further political interests.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Rajasthan Education Department has unveiled the academic calendar for the 2024-25 school year, incorporating new commemorative dates for government and private schools. Among the additions are marking August 5, the anniversary of Article 370 revocation, as ‘Swarna Mukut Mastak Diwas’ and celebrating the birthday of Hindutva ideologue VD Savarkar on May 28 as. This directive has sparked widespread outrage.

Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra lambasted the BJP-led government’s decision, describing it as a shameless move to impose its political agenda. “Congress opposes this politicization of education and the imposition of a divisive ideology on students,” Dotasra stated.

Congress spokesperson Swarnim Chaturvedi also condemned the new school calendar, arguing that it is an attempt to politicize education and promote Hindutva ideology. Chaturvedi criticized the school education minister’s focus, stating, “Instead of prioritizing education, the minister is intent on teaching students about Savarkar, who apologized to the British rather than fighting against them.”

The Congress party’s criticism highlights concerns over the BJP’s use of educational platforms to propagate Hindutva ideology, raising questions about the politicization of education in Rajasthan.
