APHC calls for commemoration of Syed Ali Gilani’s martyrdom anniversary at his grave

Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has called on the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) to visit the grave of Syed Ali Gilani at Hyderpora in Srinagar this Sunday to honor the iconic resistance leader on the third anniversary of his martyrdom.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Syed Ali Gilani embraced martyrdom on September 1, 2021, under prolonged house arrest in Srinagar.

Incarcerated, APHC Chairman Masarrat Alam Butt and senior Hurriyat leader Shabbir Ahmed Shah, in messages from Tihar Jail, praised Syed Ali Gilani’s unwavering dedication to the Kashmir cause. They described Gilani as a symbol of honesty and integrity who spent his life advocating for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.

“Syed Ali Gilani was the epitome of resilience. Despite facing immense hardships and oppression from Indian authorities, he never wavered in his commitment to the Kashmir dispute,” the messages stated. “He will forever be remembered as a hero who championed our legitimate cause with unmatched courage and determination.”

The APHC leaders urged Kashmiris to visit the Hyderpora graveyard to pay their respects to the martyred leader who valiantly fought for Kashmir’s political future. They also called on imams and ulema to offer special prayers and tributes in mosques across the territory in memory of Gilani, honoring his legacy and contributions to the Kashmiri cause.

In a related development, posters have emerged in Srinagar and other areas honoring Syed Ali Gilani’s extraordinary, fearless, and enduring struggle on his third martyrdom anniversary. Displayed on walls and pillars by freedom advocates and various organizations including Freedom Lovers, the posters emphasize that Gilani’s conscience remained unshakable despite the Indian governments’ attempts to buy it and the lacs of Indian occupying forces that could not make him yield. “We pledge to continue his mission until freedom is achieved,” the posters declare. The posters have also been shared widely across social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

Meanwhile, APHC-AJK senior leader Muhammad Farooq Rehmani in a statement in Islamabad praised Syed Gilani’s enduring struggle for the freedom of Jammu and Kashmir. Rehmani highlighted Gilani’s stature as a prominent leader who, despite enduring severe hardships, including prolonged house arrest during his final decade, remained steadfast in his opposition to Indian occupation. He underscored Gilani’s profound impact as a symbol of resistance and his unwavering commitment to the Kashmiri cause. He emphasized that the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir will honor Gilani’s legacy by continuing their fight for freedom, come what may.

On the other hand, Hurriyat activist Muhammad Ramzan Shah passed away in Sopore after a prolonged illness. Shah, a dedicated member of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s League, had been in declining health for some time. The Jammu and Kashmir People’s League commended his unwavering commitment to the freedom struggle. At a condolence reference in Islamabad, APHC-AJK leaders, including General Secretary Parvaiz Ahmad Shah, Syed Aijaz Rehmani, Shaikh Abdul Mateen, Zahid Safi, Syed Gulshan, Abdul Hameed Lone, Mushtaq Ahmad Butt and Zahoor Ahmad, offered prayers for Shah’s soul, wishing him peace and a place in paradise.
