Amid ban on Jamaat & leadership in jail, Mehbooba slams Modi regime’s double standards
Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti has questioned the Modi government’s contradictory actions towards Jamaat-e-Islami, saying the Bharatiya Janata Party is using proxy candidates to contest elections while its true leadership remains imprisoned.
According to Kashmir Media Service, addressing a public gatheirng in Pulwama’s Chandgam area, Mufti highlighted the the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami and imprisonment of its leadership. “The real members of Jamaat-e-Islami are suffering, yet some candidates claim to represent the Jamaat in these elections. I do not understand this double standard,” she questioned.
Mufti urged the Modi government to lift the ban on the Jamaat, reopen their schools, return their orchards, and stop using its draconian agencies like the Enforcement Directorate and National Investigation Agency to threaten them if it truly believes the democratic process
Mehbooba Mufti raised concerns about the the Jamaat-e-Islami ban, questioning the silence of both the Election Commission of India and the Modi government regarding Jamaat the matter.
Mehobboba also questioned the timing of Engineer Abdul Rasheed’s release, stating that it raises suspicion. “The government could have released him when Parliament was in session. His release ahead of elections is fine, but there are many other youths still in jail who could be released too,” Mufti added.
