Hindu priest calls for ban on Muslim participation in Kumbh Mela
Bhopal: A priest of Hindu religious institution in India has called for a ban on Muslim participation in the Kumbh Mela, a major Hindu religious event.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Dr. Sumananand Giri Maharaj-head priest of Niranjani Akhara, while speaking at an event, stated that Muslims should be prohibited from attending the Kumbh Mela, claiming that the sacred Hindu event should remain exclusive to Hindus.
His remarks have drawn sharp criticism for promoting religious division and intolerance. The statement reflects a growing sentiment within certain sections of Hindu society that seeks to exclude other religious communities from participating in Hindu rituals, under the guise of preserving the purity and sanctity of the events.
Dr. Giri Maharaj’s call for exclusion has sparked strong reactions, especially from the Muslim community and secular groups. The controversy continues to highlight the challenges India faces in balancing religious freedom with secularism.
