Mosque demolition sparks massive protests in Mumbai
Mumbai: Tensions erupted in Mumbai, Maharashtra, after authorities attempted to demolish the 25-year-old Subhania Mosque, citing “illegal” occupation – a pretext widely disputed as a thinly veiled justification.
According to Kashmir Media Service, massive protests broke out, with community members clashing with local police force. After stone-throwing intensified the situation, talks between officials and leaders led to an 8-day extension for vacating the mosque.
The Muslim community plans to seek legal recourse, while Congress MP Varsha Singawad has requested Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s intervention.
