Restless crowds roam free as communal violence erupts in Uttar Pradesh
Bahraich (UP): Tension escalated in Uttar Pradesh, a day after a 22-year-old man was killed in communal violence during a Durga idol immersion procession in Bahraich area of the Indian state.
According to Kashmir Media Service, restless crowds roamed the streets, and shops rwere set on fire, prompting police to detain around 30 persons in connection with the unrest.
The violence broke out in the Mahrajganj area of Mansoor village when a Durga idol immersion procession passed through on Sunday, resulting in six persons injured in stone pelting and firing. Protests erupted at several places, with slogans raised against the police and administrative officials.
Home Secretary Sanjeev Gupta and ADGP (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash rushed to the spot to assess the situation. Superintendent of Police (SP) of Bahraich Vrinda Shukla assured that the situation is being brought under control and anti-social elements are being chased away.
