Owaisi demands probe into police firing that killed three Muslims in UP
New Delhi: All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has called for an impartial investigation into the deaths of three Muslim men—Naeem Ahmed, Bilal Ansari, and Nauman—who were killed in firing by Indian police on a peaceful protest against in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the violence erupted on Sunday over a controversial survey of a historical mosque in the area.
“We strongly condemn the firing by Uttar Pradesh police on peaceful protesters in Sambhal. Action must be taken against the officials responsible. We pray for the deceased and extend condolences to their families,” Owaisi said, urging justice for the victims.
The AIMIM leader criticized the handling of the situation, linking it to broader concerns about the safety of Muslim places of worship in India. He said the 2019 Babri Masjid verdict, which awarded the disputed land for temple construction, has emboldened Hindutva groups to target mosques nationwide.
Owaisi expressed his sorrow with poignant Urdu couplets, highlighting the pain of the victims’ families and the ongoing communal tensions.
Meanwhile, Sambhal MP Ziaur Rahman Barq appealed for calm, urging constituents to maintain peace while legal and political efforts to address the tragedy unfold.
The incident has reignited debates over religious freedoms and the role of state agencies in handling communal disputes.
